About Sarpang
Sarpang is a lowland district on the border with Assam. Its headquarters is Sarpang town. Gelephu, about 30 km to the east, is the larger town and one of the road crossings from India.
Gelephu is also where Bhutan plans to build the Gelephu Mindfulness City, a new economic centre announced by His Majesty the King in December 2023.
Gelephu Tshachu, a hot spring at 332 m that opened in 1962, is used by Bhutanese for its reputed healing properties. In the west of the district, Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary protects 269 square kilometres of forest running down to the border, including the country’s only natural sal forest.
None of our set itineraries goes to Sarpang. If you would like to see it, tell us when you write, and we will say plainly what is possible on a tailor-made trip.
