Flooded rice terraces at Sopsokha in the Punakha valley, newly planted

June brings the monsoon. The hills turn a deep green, rice is planted in the Punakha and Paro valleys, and the visitors of spring have gone. It is warm, humid in the lower valleys, and wet, though seldom all day.

  • Good for: green valleys and rice planting; The Bumthang festivals of early summer; Quiet sights and lower hotel prices.
  • Less good for: mountain views; Trekking.
